System Control and Data Aquistion
Peak Environmental Monitoring can provide specialist System
Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) and/or Data Acquisition
(DAQ) to extend the functionality of existing telemetry
hardware.
Projects include but not limited to
water management
environmental monitoring
energy and mining sectors
SCADA project example - Shannon Creek Dam ( 2010)
undertaken by Dr Robyn Hannah consultant for Peak
Environmental Monitoring
see also Shannon Creek Dam - Coffs Harbour Council
The 30,000 megalitre Shannon Creek Dam is located west of
Coutts Crossing and 18 kilometres south of Grafton on the NSW
north coast. It is an off-river storage reservoir. This means that
instead of relying on rain to fall in the small 37km catchment
area of the Shannon dam for its water supply, water is gravity
fed by pipes directly from the Nymboida river. The Nymboida
river sources its water from 1700 square km of Dorrigo
catchment, the highest rainfall area in NSW.
SCADA Technical details
650 physical points
300 calculated or derived points. Including measurements of
rainfall, stream height and flow, reservoir level, pump and inlet
flow, motor speeds, power, energy usage, stop/start functions,
valve operation and flow, reservoir temperature profile.
One of the major computations was a reservoir balance which
ensured that all natural flow into the reservoir was discharged
to keep downstream environment unchanged. This was based
on base level monitoring of the site and an algorithm
determined from it.
One main PLC but it was distributed over 50 locations,
connected by cable and optical fibre.
Outlying PLC’s measured environmental parameters and
telemetered these back to the control centre using Trio radio
systems.
